El Sabinar

Aromas and millennial nature

The essence of tradition

The inhabitants of El Sabinar maintain ancient traditions such as the production of essential oils from aromatic plants like lavender and spike lavender, which flood these lands with colour in early summer.

The Reconquest at El Sabinar

Its location close to the old border of the the Kingdom of Granada has meant El Sabinar has played a leading role in episodes of history such as the repopulations carried out by the Order of Santiago in the 15th century to establish the Christian population after the Reconquest.

Salt is produced here without the sea

3 km from El Sabinar are Salinas de Zacatín, one of the most outstanding inland salt flats in the Region of Murcia. The salt produced here has been traditionally used for salting the typical cold meats of the region.
