Teatro Trieta

20th century

Civil architecture at the service of culture

The origin of the theatre in Moratalla goes back to the mid-18th century, when plays were staged in a room of the former Hospital San Camilo de Lelis to raise funds for its maintenance. Trieta Theatre was built in 1916 on the site of the old English Garden, which had previously been occupied by the Plaza de Toros. The theatre opened one year before works were completed with the performance of the actress from Moratalla, Estrella Gil, the name by which the theatre was known for some time. Trieta Theatre is the venue for most of the town’s cultural events. In addition to plays, you can also enjoy films, concerts or literary gatherings.
