Iglesia de la Purísima

A church with a soul

Una iglesia con alma

This church was built on a the site of a former hermitage devoted to the Virgen de la Purísima Concepción, patron saint of Cañada de la Cruz. The history of this church is related to the Cuadrilla de Ánimas de la Purísima Concepción. Cuadrillas de ánimas are traditional musical groups characteristic of South-eastern Spain, especially the Region of Murcia. Initially these groups raised money for religious and social purposes and currently contribute significantly to the conservation of the local ethnographic and cultural heritage through the dissemination of popular songs and dances.
